What Are You Looking At?

Now when He had spoken these things, while they watched, He was taken up, and a cloud received Him out of their sight. And while they looked steadfastly toward heaven as He went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel, who also said, “Men of Galilee, why do you stand gazing up into heaven? This same Jesus, who was taken up from you into heaven, will so come in like manner as you saw Him go into heaven.” (‭Acts‬ ‭1‬:‭9-11‬ NKJV)

Time to move on

This morning as I was reading I had a clear take away.

Quit looking towards the sky. What does that mean? As humans we have a natural inclination to keep looking into the past instead of the future. The disciples had just seen the Lord ascend into heaven. He had given them clear instruction, and they are just standing there staring. I realize I would probably do the same thing because of the take away I had today. We cannot continue to look at what He has done, but rather what He is going to do next.
We cannot live on yesterday’s blessing.
We cannot live on yesterday’s word.
We cannot live on yesterday’s encouragement.
We cannot live on yesterday’s healing.
We cannot live on yesterday’s anything.

We have to start pursuing today and tomorrow. Yesterday was great. Yesterday is an amazing testimony. Yesterday is strong encouragement, but it was yesterday. He is still alive and active. He is still moving through the power of the Holy Spirit. He still has stuff for us to do like He had for the disciples. We cannot keep staring at the sky.

Yes, He is coming back soon. Yes, we need to be looking towards the eastern sky. However, I do not think it is supposed to paralyze us or keep us from accomplishing His will and purpose. We have to do like Dori, “just keep swimming, just keep swimming.” In doing so we can have the greatest impact.
