It Doesn’t Always Make Sense!

56 Your father Abraham rejoiced to see My day, and he saw it and was glad.” 57 Then the Jews said to Him, “You are not yet fifty years old, and have You seen Abraham?” 58 Jesus said to them, “Most assuredly, I say to you, before Abraham was, I AM.” 59 Then they took up stones to throw at Him; but Jesus hid Himself and went out of the temple, going through the midst of them, and so passed by. (John 8:56-59 NKJV)
Following the Lord may not always make sense, but it is always right!

Jesus in His dialogue with the religious leaders of the day is explaining deep truth about the deity of who He is, and they don’t get it.  In fact they didn’t want to get it!
This exchange is at the end of a much longer conversation.  This exchange ends with the truth that Jesus had known, does know, and will always know Abraham.  He is the great I AM.  He Was, He Is, and He Always Will Be!  This is a fundamental hurdle they couldn’t get over.
Two short thoughts today:
1. Jesus is always speaking to us from His deity.
With His deity comes the ability to know everything, the beginning, the end, and everything in between!  This being a true statement, when He is the initiator of the conversation, request, or task. He knows the end, and therefore it might seem impossible to us, but He has already been there, and seen the completion of whatever it is.  He knew Abraham.  He walked with him, talked with him, and could speak of this truth.  However, this would not make sense in the natural to the religious leaders.  They asked the questions of Jesus based on the earthly limitations of mankind, not based on His deity.  Which, by the way, is what He was trying to establish with them.
2. It won’t end until He is ready for it to end.
They picked up stones to kill Him, but it was not His time.  The people of this world, the enemy of your soul, and everything in between can’t stop what the Lord wants to accomplish.  This should bring great confidence if you are seeking after, living for, and doing the things He wants you to do.  They may try stop you, they may get a few shots fired, or even land a punch or two, but they can’t stop His eternal purpose!  Rest in the confidence that we know the end…
(Revelation 22:20-21) He who testifies to these things says, “Surely I am coming quickly.” Amen, Even so, come, Lord Jesus! The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ with with you all Amen.

One thought on “It Doesn’t Always Make Sense!”

  1. I like your take on this passage, especially, “Jesus is always speaking to us from His Deity.” As a chronic doubter, it’s good to remember that He’s been there and knows the end.
